The founders of Obalne lekarne Koper are:

  • Municipality of Izola,
  • Municipality of Koper, and
  • Municipality of Piran.

The public institution provides pharmacy services in the area of Slovenian Istria and the Municipality of Hrpelje-Kozina.

Its operations are governed by the Decree on the Transformation of the Public Institution for Pharmacy Services Obalne lekarne Koper, including subsequent amendments and supplements, and by the Statutes of the Public Institution Obalne lekarne Koper, including subsequent amendments and supplements.

Internal organisation:

  • nine pharmacy units, including six pharmacies and three pharmacy branches,
  • Galenic Laboratory,
  • central services, comprising the Quality Control and Analytical Laboratory, Accounting and Finance Department, General Human Resources Department and Information Technology Department.

The purpose of pharmacy services is to provide high-quality and effective access to medicines and other products that support treatment and the preservation of health, as well as to provide advice on their safe, proper and appropriate use, both to patients and other healthcare professionals. At the same time, providing pharmaceutical care to patients makes an important contribution to maintaining health and achieving the expected clinical, humanistic and economic outcomes of treatment.

Pharmaceutical patient care is an individual, comprehensive, proactive, periodic and systematic approach to patients aimed at ensuring their active participation in maintaining health, preventing the onset of disease or deterioration of their health, ensuring the proper use of medicines and other measures for disease management, and ensuring the timely involvement of other healthcare professionals. As part of seamless care, cognitive pharmacy services are provided, such as the preparation and updating of the Personal Medication Record, Medication Use Review and follow-up Medication Use Review.

The activities of the Galenic Laboratory and the Quality Control and Analytical Laboratory include reliable and high-quality production and testing of galenic medicines and other products based on traditional formulations passed down through generations of pharmacists and doctors. At the same time, the laboratories respond to demand for modern products on the market that can be manufactured in accordance with our technological processes.

They aim to remain the first and most accessible partner for users of healthcare services and a recognised provider of galenic medicines and other products in Slovenia.

Obalne lekarne Koper serve the public interest in the field of pharmacy by ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted supply of medicines to the population and healthcare providers, as well as providing pharmaceutical care to patients. They adapt to the needs of pharmacy service users and provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including access to the latest knowledge, information, high-quality medicines, and other products and services aimed at maintaining and promoting patients’ health and improving their quality of life.

Good relationships among employees, users of pharmacy services, founders and business partners are essential to achieving success.

As part of their role as a teaching institution, they are committed to providing effective practical training for pharmacy students and students enrolled in the pharmacy technician programme, as well as enabling rotations for residents enrolled in the Medicines Formulation specialisation programme.
